October Update- Ian Paone

October 29, 2010 20:37 by tmcfreeriderz

Hey everyone, Ian here checking in from quiet Whistler, BC. The snows starting the show itself after a hibernation that lasted way too long for me. I'm just chilling, finishing up some school work and getting my body and mind ready for the winter. Supposed to be a El Nino year so it's gonna dump massive amounts of snow (POW!!!!!!).

I just wanted to everyone out there someone who has been very important to me in the last year. I had a really rough year after my brother passed, filled with injuries and a lot of surrounding me. His name is Rayme. My parents got him 2 months after my brother died in addition to the other Golden we had, Shadow. He has done wonders for me and my family and I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him. This is him and Shadow a year ago(Shadow unfortunately passed soon after this photo was taken. He was 8).

When I moved back to Victoria in August Rayme and I became very close and went everywhere together. I recently got to bring him up to Whistler with me and he stayed with me for 3 weeks. Those were the best 3 weeks I've had in a long time. This is him now, 1 year old and still the crazy puppy my parents bought a year ago.

I hope everyone gets to meet him someday. He'll put a smile on your face no matter what is happening to you or the world. I wish he could live with me full-time but when ski season comes I wouldn't be able to spend any time with him so he lives my parents.

ORAGE MASTERS----by:Mack Jones - TMC PRO RIDER

ORAGE MASTERS ----by:Mack Jones - TMC PRO RIDER                                       check----> http://www.tmcfreeriderz.com

On April 17th the annual Orage Masters took place at the base of Whistler Mountain. Generally referred to as the "anticomp" due to its laid back attitude and all round good spirit, it is definitely the most entertaining and relaxed contest of the season. This year, I was asked to compete in the Masters for 4frnt Skis with fellow teammates Finn Anderson, Will Berman, and Keltie Hansen and team manager Matt Sterbenz. Our team's theme was the Super Mario Brothers, and I elected to dress up as Toad as you'll see in the photos below, purely because he is the best and most underrated character in the game (have you seen how fast he is in Mario Kart? Astonishing.). Check out the modified TMC Beanie I used for my Toad hat! As for the actual contest, we chose to simply go for broke rather than play around with skits and props like the other teams by flipping off everything in sight, and it most definitely paid off. In the head to head format, we managed to advance against Amplid and Armada in the early rounds, where we were then paired with the K2 Rockstars in the final. Unfortunately we were topped by K2 with their fantastic display of skiing and hilarious theatrics courtesy of Pettit and Margetts, however we were still very excited because it was 4frnt's best result at the Masters to date: 2nd place. All in all it was an amazing day despite the rainy weather, and an awesome time was had by all on hill and at Longhorn that night. We're looking forward to cashing in our prize of a catskiing trip to Retallack next year! Here are a couple photos from the day.

The spring event brought a bunch of competitions to Whistler Village including two that I competed in: The Orage Masters with Salomon and the World Ski Invitational Pipe Contest. I was really stoked to ski in the masters as we competed as forest animals. We had a blast and won best team costumes/spirit. Here's me pretending to be in the rescue rangers.

Next up on the list was Halfpipe and after battling a stellar stomach flew that had me leaning over the sink, we were on to qualifiers. My background skiing pipe definitely helped as I placed second in my qualifying heat moving onto semis with all the invited boys the next day.

I made finals and was stoked on my first run but unfortunately fell on my second run trying to push it too hard. Oh well, I still had a super sweet weekend and ended up placing 12th in the international pipe competition. I was pretty stoked on that! Now its time for some good spring sessions with the crew.

JAH!
